What it is

The old phone game, rebuilt out of plastic on your living room floor. Each player steers a snake head by remote, collects magnetic blocks, and the blocks latch on behind to make the tail longer. A reverse function was added because the first thing a child does is drive straight into the skirting board.

It only really works with two. Head-to-head rounds, a timer and an obstacle mode turn it from a gadget into a game, and that is the difference between a toy that gets played with twice and one that comes back out on a wet Saturday. One child alone will use it for a while and then stop.

Both heads charge over USB from a 500 mAh cell, so there is no drawer hunt for AAs, and there is a sound switch — which, given that the lights and audio fire on every block capture, is the control adults will reach for first.
